The Jett and Jahn fundraiser!Dear fans,
We hope your Summer is going well. We are astounded by the massive support we have gotten and are greatly pleased by the rising numbers of views our content gets. Unfortunately with such astronomical numbers our financial commitments also increase, and very quickly ; however, we understand both the privacy issues and the economical issues with asking for any large sums. Thus instead we have devised a simple fundraiser plan that will only require these things from you:
1. A little bit of your time each week
2. 5 dollars
With these 2 elements we will be able to put your small investment to work, according to our calculations in the long run your small comittments will generate a lot of cash. That’s not all ; however, after all our financial commitments are fulfilled we will have a lottery to give away a fraction of our profits to a lucky winner! This means in the long run this might not even be a donation for you but an investment. So you have literally nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Overview of the Plan: The plan is to use Valve’s Team Fortress 2 virtual economy to take investments and generate profits off of them. This does not however mean that you have to actually play this game, fortunately there is a very nice loop around this meaning that you can generate donations to JNJ doing nothing but letting a program run for a few hours (The game does however wish you to spend 5 dollars first, it would be appreciated if you spent these 5 on 2 keys) . You can find up to 8-12 items a week meaning that the average find a week will be worth about 60-80 cents. The big winnings are found in boxes, each takes a key worth 2.50 to open with a 1% chance for something worth potentially 350 dollars. Other boxes; however, also contain some valuables, some potentially worth more than the initial 2.50 investment so in the long run JnJ is bound to only make cash off of this. Each contribution will be “scored” at a number of tickets for the lottery in the future, see the appropriate section for more information.
Setting up.The first step shall be to go to
http://store.steampowered.com/ And to click “install steam” on the top right, the interface will then walk you through with setting up an account and getting Steam installed on your machine. No worries – I have used this program since 2003 and the rest of the JNJ staff has also used it for years, we have never been jipped on it and it’s considered one of the most secure programs for virtual trade.
Once you are in the client make sure you have the “Store” tab selected on the top and then put in “Team Fortress 2” into the search bar at the to pright. This will then pop up with a “Team Fortress 2” That’s the one you will want to click. After this it should start downloading it to your library, depending on your connection this will take a while.
While it’s downloading be sure to add JNJMikeJahn to your friends list, the friends list should automatically pop up with steam (If not there's a friends tab at the top of the main interface, also you can right click steam in your task bar) . If not its one of the tabs at the top of the Steam interface.
Once the Download is complete you are free to play TF2. If gaming is your hobby id recommend playing Team Fortress 2 for real as it’s rather fun! But anyways, before the game will allow you to find items you have to spend 5$ first to make your account premium.
Start the game, on the game’s main menu you’ll want to click “Shop” , this will then come up with their store, you’ll want to go under MISC and get 2 regular mann-co keys. These will be tradable to us in only 2 days unfortunately. Pics below if you’re confused:

Click the Shop icon

Navigate to Misc and buy the keys.
Collecting Items Now for item collection part , with this you will be able to collect items every week to send to us as an investment with which we can buy more keys. This will open up a command line that will take almost none of your computer resources, with the only catch being that you can only do it 12 hours a week before you max out. This limit is reset roughly every Wednesday night and by Thursday morning you can collect items again.
Collecting items is very simple – in the library sidebar on the left sidebar right click Team Fortress 2 and click properties, under the general tab then click set launch options and put in these lines:
-textmode -noshader -novid -console –nosound
Pic if confused:

Then start up the game, this will open up a command line instead of the game. Once the command line stops go back to the steam client and at the top click “View” and then “Servers” at the bottom of the interface click “Change filters” and then type in achi, this will show you all the achievement_idle servers which are designed specifically for you to do this , then simply double click a server and the command line will confirm your connection. After that simply let it run for a few hours.
Pic if confused on where View is:

After enough time has passed simply close the command line and if you want to check on your new items simply go back and right click team fortress 2, remove the commands from the launch options and launch normally. The game should pop up with an icon next to the mail box on the top right if you received something.
Another method for farming boxes that might be even simpler is to right click your desktop and select a new shortcut. Then in the prompt type in C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 440 -textmode -nosound -window -nopreload -novid -dxlevel 81 +map "itemtest"
Or if you use a different directory just replace the C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe with the correct directory. Then simply launch your game from the shortcut, however this time you wont need to connect to any servers. We aren’t sure if this works though.
Once you have items contact JNJMikeJahn for further instructions on how to transfer the items to us.
Details on the Lottery: Each regular item you hand over to us will give you a ticket in the lottery, hats will give according to their actual market price. 18 items worth is about how much you might expect per hat . Keys are worth approximately 42 items. Crates will be worth between 2-4 items depending on their number. In all the more tickets you have the larger your chance to get a winning, obviously keys will be worth the most ; however each item will put us closer to making big $$$ which then means that we will play the lottery much sooner.
Summary: Unlike other donation drives that are built on merely promises our fundraiser will both put your money to work and give you a chance to get some money from a small investment. We hope that we will get many participants, thanks guys!
Current State of AffairsWe have all of our JNJ staff working on this project and we have personally invested about 25 keys and managed to open 55 boxes now. Fan donations have begun to trickle in slowly!
